Winter Wellness

Tis the season for colds & flus, fa la la la la la la la la!

What a weird week in AZ, we had 80 degree highs, 40 degree lows, cloudy days, (yes plural) and even rain! With all of these changes, it seems like everyone is a little under the weather. Including myself… and the other 3 members of my family. It is probably super ironic that I’m talking to you about wellness while we’re sick but I am certified in Holistic Health and feel it important to share my knowledge. I’m going to give you 5 helpful tips to balance your pH and bring your body to a more alkaline state.

1. Stay hydrated.

It’s that simple. Drink 8 or more glasses of water as water flushes the body of toxins. You can add anti-inflammatory fruits & veggies like lemon, cucumber & mint for a little pizazz.

2. Let’s chat about food.

Hippocrates said, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” During this season, people tend to run to warm, filling, comfort food and that’s totally okay! However, make sure that the foods you’re indulging in are foods that will leave you feeling satisfied, as well as, nourishing your body. Keep loads of greens stocked in your house to ensure you’re getting all the nutrients you need. Every time we go to the grocery store, we stock up on baby spinach, zucchini, broccoli, avocado, green beans, celery, cucumber and brussel sprouts. Each of these vegetables offer vitamins and nutrients vital to staying healthy.

3. Essential Oils

If you’re not using essential oils in your household, WHAT ARE YOU EVEN DOING WITH YOUR LIFE?! Sorry if that seems harsh… I do apologize. But, for real…. jump on this health bandwagon and reap the benefits of these delicious smelling, remarkable healing, magical potions. Every oil has healing benefits. If you’re new to oils, I highly, highly recommend purchasing lavender, thieves oil and tea tree. These 3 staples will get you through everything.

4. Herbs

Herbs are a gift from God himself. Yes, I claimed it! Herbal remedies have been used for thousands of years dating back to Biblical times when they used frankincense and myrrh as spiritual herbs. Now, if you’re not interested in getting spiritual up in here, that’s fine too. Herbs can used as a preventative way of staying healthy. Go to herbs for optimal wellness include olive leaf extract, echinacea and Elderberry. (All can be purchased at Sprouts or Whole Foods.)

5. Apple Cider Vinegar

Last, but certainly not least, purchase some Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) cuz we’re about to get weird. Okay, weird…and also a little harsh. Even in a small amount, ACV offers a long list of healing benefits when consumed. Most people think even a teaspoon is too harsh to swallow so I’ve come up with a healing concoction that even my toddler can tolerate. (Seriously, she loves it!) Start with a teaspoon of ACV, add 1 tbsp of lemon juice, 1/2 teaspoon of garlic, 1 tbsp of honey or stevia and 8 oz of water. It tastes like lemonade and it helps to heal inflammation, bacteria and viral infections and much more. See this article for more information on ACV.

Wishing well wishes to all of you this winter. I know these winter bugs can be harsh and pray that you don’t get struck with the Black Plague like we have. (That’s a joke…it’s not that serious…it’s just the flu!)

For one last tip… make sure you’re laughing. There is quite a bit of evidence that shows the benefits of laughing while under the weather.

    We’ve been in the essential oils game for a few years now, and I can’t speak highly enough of the amazing benefits they offer. Our family is happy and healthy!
