6 Arizona Themed Kid’s Halloween Costumes

Skip the “Sweater Weather” costumes! West Valley Moms Blog has created 6 Arizona Themed Kid’s Halloween Costumes you’ll LOVE!

Halloween is right around the corner and we have all started to question our kiddos about what they would like to dress up as for the haunted holiday we all love. As they go back and forth on superhero or puppy dog we start to scan Pinterest for unique, fun and *whispers* maybe even EASY costumes to make. πŸ˜‰ These adorable options allow your Arizona kiddos to trick-or-treat and look sweet, all while staying cool in those desert temps.

1. Saguaro Cactus

An obvious choice! Our very own state flower is the Saguaro Cactus Blossom, thus this adorable costume was our very first prick..errr pick.

What You’ll Need:

  • Green dress OR shirt + leggings
  • White yarn
  • Headband
  • Green Ribbon
  • Faux Flowers OR Poms

How To:

Costume// For the cactus thorns simply cut 3 pieces of yarn (approx 3 inches long) and knot together at the center. Attach by hot gluing onto the front of the dress…and don’t forget the sleeves! Thorn placement to your liking.

Headband// Hot glue green grosgrain ribbon to plastic headband. Add flowers or poms to your liking.

Shoes// We recommend brown or green sandals, flats or boots.

2. Little Miss Sunshine

Arizona is super sunny most of the year. So we HAD to include a little sunshine in our group…in sunnies of course!

What You’ll Need:

  • Yellow onsie
  • White leggings
  • Headband
  • Pipcleaner
  • Tulle
  • Pom
  • Rubberbands

How To:

Costume// A yellow onsie from Walmart with white leggings.

Headband//  Add yellow straws over and pipe cleaners (or yellow pipe cleaners will work) twisted in a zigzag pattern to create the sun ray look. Orange tulle was added  towards the back to give a glowing affect.

Shoes// Our Little Miss Sunshine’s yellow flats are actually Belle slippers that had pink flowers on them. The sunshine look needed to be temporary so we used tulle and a yellow pompom to rubber-band around the existing pink flower.

3. Roadrunner

“The most famous bird in the Sonoran Desert…” We love this bird and opted for the fun, colorful version that gives out a Beep Beep….because royal blue over brown feathers ANYDAY! πŸ˜‰

What You’ll Need:

  • Blue leotard
  • Yellow opaque tights
  • Tulle (All remaining items from Hobby Lobby)
  • Elastic band
  • Light blue ostrich Feathers
  • Fancy feathers
  • Hair clip
  • Ribbon for tutu

How To:

Costume// Both a matte royal blue tulle and a shimmer light blue tulle from Hobby Lobby were used to alternate the colors to make the tutu. Once completed, hot glue the royal blue fancy feathers onto the tutu. The large ostrich feathers were tied to the elastic band of the tutu with blue satin ribbon

Hairpiece// Hot glue 3 royal blue fancy feathers to a mini clear hair clip. This look used 2 of hairpieces that were clipped onto the top knot. Add a blue satin hair bow as a finishing touch!

Shoes// We recommend yellow or glitter flats or slip on tennis shoes.

4. Snowbird

Speaking of birds…with winter comes the flocks of “snowbirds” that we all know and love. This funny costume couldn’t be left out of the mix!

What You’ll Need:

  • Gray hair wig
  • Floral dress
  • Light sweater (can be worn on shoulders)
  • Glasses

Costume// Additional accessories could include a scarf or hairnet. We skipped the things like a mug, cane or walker because those are something you would likely have to carry. πŸ˜‰

Shoes// We recommend slippers or sandals.

5. Luke AFB Jet Pilot

In the West Valley we constantly hear jets zoom overhead. So a our little Luke AFB pilot was a must. This option is cute and classic!

What You’ll Need:

  • Raybans
  • Pilot printed shirt or Bomber Jacket (to hang over the shoulder) paired with a white polo
  • Black shorts

Costume// We intended on using a printed pilot t-shirt but the sizing was off so we substituted in a white polo (Tip:: Be sure that you order your t-shirt in plenty of time if there are sizing issues.)

Shoes// We recommend comfy black tennis shoes.

6. Ice Cream

I SCREAM, YOU SCREAM, WE ALL SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM! This cool costume reminds us of Arizona because with our summers….ice cream is a MUST. But if your kiddos are like mine, that ice cream always seems to melt right out the bottom of the cone. Que the melted ice cream at her feet! Hehe!

What You’ll Need:

  • White T-Shirt
  • Brown leggings
  • Felt
  • Poms
  • Barrette

How To:

Costume// Cut out a bib pattern on your felt (champagne color used here) with a circle stencil, a bowl was used for tracing. Hot glue the bib collar pieces at the t-shirt sleeves and collar and leave the bottom free for better movement of the “ice cream topper”. Add a color variety of poms. Placement to your liking.

Headpiece// Use hot glue to add add a variety of poms in color and size. Placement to your liking.

Shoes// We recommend pink or glitter flats or boots.
