For about 5 years now I have hosted Thanksgiving for my family at my house. I love to entertain but when I first started my holiday hosting, I had to have everything perfect. We would have a 4 course meal complete with the china received from my wedding many years earlier. I’ve since simplified my holiday entertaining regimen to include a little less stress with a less fancy layout.
I’ve learned a few of the best places to shop in Phoenix for inexpensive dishes and decor for the holidays. This Thanksgiving Tablescape includes some of my favorite finds from thrift stores and Ikea.
White Plates $.89 cents at Ikea
Brown Side Plates (set of 4) $4.99 at Ikea
Amber Goblets & Dishes $.20 cents each at Goodwill Clearance Center
Silver Plated Silverware $1 at Goodwill
Martha Stewart Placemats $2 at Goodwill
Tablecloth $3 at a local thrift store in Sun City
Milk Glass Candle Holders $.50 cents each at a local yard sale
Milk Glass Candy Dish $1.00 at Goodwill Clearance Center
In case you weren’t aware, Ikea has a Family card that works similar to any store savings card and it’s free! I didn’t realize how this worked and how valuable it was until I bought these plates. The brown plates were originally $9.99 but the friendly cashier told me that with my card it was 50% off! That deal combined with the white plates made 8 plates for under $9!
Goodwill stores are 50% off every Saturday which makes finding bargains like glassware or tablecloths an even better deal. Goodwill also has a clearance center at 51st avenue and Van Buren in Phoenix. This store sells items by the pound which means if you are a bargain hunter, this store is for you. The store is harder to find a specific something at but if you have an open mind you may find perfect pieces. I did a review a few years ago about the Clearance Center on my blog.
