We’re really excited for that one. No matter what your favorite genre is though, there really is something for everyone this year: animation, nature, super heroes, princesses, and more! So, here’s a look at all the fun we can expect from Disney at the movies in 2015…
January 23, 2015 – Strange Magic (Touchstone Pictures / Lucasfilm)
Strange Magic is a new animated fairy tale musical inspired by “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Popular songs from the past six decades help tell the tale of a colorful cast of goblins, elves, fairies and imps, and their hilarious misadventures sparked by the battle over a powerful potion. You can check out our Strange Magic movie review here.
February 20, 2015 – McFarland, USA (Walt Disney Studios)
Based on the 1987 true story, “McFarland, USA” follows novice runners from McFarland, an economically challenged town in California, as they give their all to build a cross-country team under the direction of Coach Jim White (Kevin Costner), a newcomer to their predominantly Latino high school, with whom they ultimately bond to build not only a championship cross-country team but an enduring legacy as well.
I love a good inspirational sports story, especially a Kevin Costner one! So, hopefully this is good!
March 13, 2015 – Cinderella (Walt Disney Studios)
This live action film is inspired by the 1950 animated classic, “Cinderella”. I’m so excited for this one! Cinderella is one of my favorites, so I can’t wait to see it come to life as a live action film! Plus, we’ll get to see a new animated Frozen animated short at the beginning of the movie!
April 17, 2015 – Monkey Kingdom (Disneynature)
As a former biology teacher, I love the Disneynature films! We loved Bears and Chimpanzee the year before that. This year, Disneynature takes us to the jungles of South Asia where we’ll follow the adventures of new monkey mom “Maya” and her little son.
May 1, 2015 – Avengers: Age of Ultron (Marvel)
Avengers assemble! The star-studded cast & all your favorite superheroes (Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye) are back to try to save the planet from destruction at the hands of the villainous Ultron.
May 22, 2015 – Tomorrowland (Walt Disney Studios)
This mystery adventure starring Academy Award® winner George Clooney is all about a scientist and an optimistic teen who embark on a mission to reveal the secrets of an strange place somewhere in time and space.
June 19, 2015 – Inside Out (Disney / Pixar)
I’m SO excited about this movie! Animators will take us on a journey inside the mind and explore our main emotions (joy, sadness, anger, disgust, and fear). On a recent media trip to Pixar Studios in San Francisco, I actually had the pleasure of meeting with the director (Pete Docter) and Producer (Jonas Rivera). We got some sneaks of the movie and it is SO good.
July 17, 2015 – Ant–Man (Marvel)
Paul Rudd stars in the latest Marvel adventure. The next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time with Marvel Studios’ “Ant-Man” when master thiefScott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats.
October 9, 2015 – The Jungle Book (Walt Disney Studios)
A new live-action adaptation of the Rudyard Kipling classic tale, starring Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Christopher Walken, Neel Sethi, Idris Elba and Scarlett Johansson. Awesome!
October 16, 2015 – The Untitled Steven Spielberg Cold War Spy Thriller (DreamWorks Pictures)
Cold War spy thriller directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Hanks!! Need I say more?! This should be good!
November 25, 2015 – The Good Dinosaur (Disney / Pixar)
Little dinosaur enthusiasts should be really excited about a new dino movie…especially when it stars a giant teenage Apatosaurus!
December 18, 2015 – Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Lucasfilm)
If you’re a Star Wars fan or have fans in your house, then you likely already know all about this one! This is going to be THE blockbuster film of the holiday season. Prepare for lines of people days in advance at theaters and lots of buzz about this one in the coming months. After getting to visit Skywalker Ranch and meet George Lucas recently, I’m extra excited for this one. A teaser trailer has already been released, but I’m predicting a full trailer before Avengers in May (*fingers crossed)!
