Are you looking for a great idea for your son’s next birthday party? The internet is chock full of frilly and fancy girly parties for every age, but at times it can be a challenge to come up with something great to do with boys, especially older rambunctious boys! I recently threw a laser tag birthday party for my 10-year-old son that was a big hit! In fact, one guest called it legendary! Here are some of the details of the event incase you want to host a similar adventure for your child and their friends. (NOTE: My daughters LOVED playing laser tag, too. So this could be a fun party for anyone–including girls and grown-ups!)
I was really excited to find Mobile Laser Tag by AZ Birthday Parties here in the Phoenix area. They bring laser tag to your location! This was a great idea for us for a lot of reasons: there are no laser tag places or similar game type businesses in our part of town. Having to transport friends to and from an event would have been challenging, limiting and expensive. Not to mention the most important part–I need to have parties at venues where I can have free reign and access to decorate and complete my vision! They have lots of options for course set up and guns. And they were running a special where they would bring 20 guns for the price of 10! Awesome! This way the big boys (grown-ups) got to play, too. As well as my daughters who loved it! They ran all of the games, set-up and take-down so I was not responsible for entertaining a dozen preadolescent boys, and could instead, focus on my glowing neon laser theme.
It all began with these invitation I created with my Cricut machine. I attached glow sticks to the back side, to give the effect of a laser shooting out of the paper gun.
Most of the party ware on the tables came from Oriental Trading Company. Giant glow in the dark cups were embellished with small decals of the same gun featured on the invitation. I used glow in the dark frisbees as chargers.
Tina from Pixy Cakes, a cupcake, wedding cake, everything cake shop in Avondale, AZ made this amazing cake! I am still having cravings for more of that chocolate turtle flavored cake that was one of the layers!
For food I made DIY MRE’s with pre-packaged food like jerky and fruit leather to refuel our little soldiers.
Guests got neon bags with fun glow in the dark toys and gadgets, including a Lightsticks FX. They are a genius little gadget to help you take all sorts of cool and nerdy pictures. You hold the stick strategically in front of the lens of the camera, turn the flash on and end up with pictures that look like you are shooting a glowing laser.
