So, I’m kind of a diehard thrifter, but for those of you who aren’t, hear me out, okay? I’m not out there shopping for used underwear and over-stretched scrunchies. I’m shopping for the same stuff I’d find at the mall or my favorite stores, but for a fraction of the price! When I’m paying only $2-$3 for Gap and Hurley shirts, I don’t feel so bad when my boys outgrow them in like four days.

To be real, probably 80% of my wardrobe is thrifted as well, not that I outgrow my clothes like my boys do (unless you consider how tight my jeans are the morning after Taco Tuesday), but my style does change with seasons and trends. Thrifting is a great way to keep my wardrobe fresh without the husband noticing a dip in the bank account.
If you’re open to the idea of thrifting, but don’t really know where to start, I gotcha. First I’m going to share my favorite places to shop, then I’ll do a follow-up post to help you find the good stuff once you’re inside. So, here are my top three favorite thrift stores in the West Valley and why I love them so much:
- Goodwill (Lake Pleasant/83rd) – Every other Saturday in AZ, Goodwill offers 50% off all their used goods. This means I’m snagging kids clothes for $1-$2 per piece! You can also sign up on goodwillaz.org and get a monthly coupon for 10% off a purchase of $10 or more! I use this for the days when the boys have a need or I’m looking for the perfect piece to finish an outfit and I don’t want to wait till the next half-off sale. You can use the coupon as many times as you want, right from your phone!
- Other Mothers (RH Johnson/Bell Rd) – This place buys gently used stuff for cash or store credit, and they are pretty particular with what they take in so they always have a great selection. They also have an entire section dedicated to name brand items, often with the tags still on them. Whenever I want to update my wardrobe or snag a few pieces for the boys, I just purge our closets, score some store credit, and shop for free for the new items I want. Hashtag winning all over the place.
- Desert Industries (67th/Bell Rd.) – This place just opened up and is run by a local church group. The workers are sweet and the store is well-kept and ridiculously organized!. We went and checked it out for their grand opening a few weeks ago and loved it! The prices were great and I can’t wait to go back and find more treasures soon!
